About the School of History and Sociology at the Georgia Institute of Technology
The School of History and Sociology (HSOC) is a uniquely interdisciplinary unit with an intellectual culture of cross-pollination between sociological and historical scholarship, as well as work in science and technology studies. The School is united around a vision of scholarship and teaching that elucidates processes of local, national, and global change, past and present. This includes promoting a broader understanding of how racial, gender, and class inequalities intersect, as well as how technology, science, environment, and culture are intertwined. HSOC offers a Bachelor of Science degree in History, Technology, and Society and several joint undergraduate minors including Health, Medicine, and Society; Science, Technology, and Society; and Social Justice. At the graduate level, HSOC offers master's and doctoral degrees in the History and Sociology of Technology and Science. Job Summary
The School of History and Sociology at the Georgia Institute of Technology invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral fellowship. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to teach two undergraduate classes per year (one each Fall and Spring semester) as part of the established undergraduate teaching program in the School of History and Sociology.
The expected start date for successful candidates is July 1, 2024.
Responsibilities
The postdoctoral fellow is expected to teach two undergraduate classes per year (one each Fall and Spring semester) as part of the established undergraduate teaching program in the School of History and Sociology. They should carry out independent research related to food, agriculture, or the environment in the twentieth or twenty-first centuries. Ideally the candidate will also be an active participant in the project - From Collection to Cultivation: Historical Perspectives on Crop Diversity and Food Security, including by attending a monthly virtual meeting led by Professor Helen Anne Curry, which provides funding for the fellowship.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in history, sociology, or related discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and an active program of research in the history or sociology of food, agriculture, or the environment.
