About the Department

The Office for Faculty Excellence (OFE) is a unit within the Provost’s Office. The Provost is the chief academic officer under the Chancellor and is responsible for reviewing and approving all academic programs and policies related to the faculty’s appointment, promotion, and compensation.

The OFE is the primary contact for NC State’s policies, regulations, and rules relating to faculty employment and evaluation, including the reappointment, promotion, tenure, and post-tenure review processes.

The OFE also includes staff focused on faculty development and works closely with other units across NC State to support faculty development and leadership development programming for faculty at all stages of their careers, coordinates multiple faculty award processes within the university, and works with the Faculty Senate regarding faculty personnel policies and issues.

The OFE aims to connect all faculty members to vital information and resources while providing the knowledge and skills needed to grow, excel, and succeed in all realms of faculty responsibility. We strive to provide resources for all faculty members on campus, regardless of their discipline or tenure status.

The OFE offers various programming courses, including workshops on topics pertinent to faculty success. Additionally, the OFE offers reading circles and small groups that allow colleagues to share ideas about teaching and learning in an informal setting with peers from across the university.
