Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Senior HR Generalist reports to the Assistant Director of Human Resources and provides oversight and management of various professional and complex HR assignments in support of the FM organization that employs over 800 service, maintenance, skilled crafts, administrative and professional employees. The primary focus of this position is in the areas of recruitment and talent acquisition. Incumbent will primarily manage nonexempt, exempt and student (undergraduate) employment processes from start to finish and will ensure compliance with FM, UMD, FLSA, and EEO requirements. The incumbent will coordinate with the Assistant Director and Assistant HR Manager to assist with special projects required of the Employment, Recruiting, and Talent Acquisition unit, and advise hiring officials creating and updating positions, and update and maintain FM personnel records and organizational charts. The incumbent works on sensitive HR actions and must exercise discretion, tact and confidentiality at all times.

Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience:
At least four (4) years’ experience in human resources, including two years in the recruiting/talent acquisition and employment discipline.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of the principles and practices of human resources administration.
- Knowledge of sound techniques in all aspects of human resources.
- Basic knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations such as EEO, and FLSA.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times to maintain poise and courtesy under pressure.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and tact.
- Working knowledge of all applicable university personnel policies and procedures.
- Thorough knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
- Must have strong verbal, reasoning, and problem solving skills to identify solutions, and implement agreed upon actions.
- Ability to use automated systems and human resources information systems such as PHR, ARES, eTerp and Workday.
- Strong computer skills required in Word, Excel, email, calendaring and proprietary software.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to conduct interviews.
- Ability to present ideas and information clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
- Ability to perform mathematical computations; to present statistical material in chart and graph form.
Preferences:
Preferences:
- Degree in Human Resources or a closely related field preferred.
- Additional experience as a generalist strongly desired.
- Experience with University of Maryland College Park systems, including eTerp, PHR, Tririga, Workday and KFS.
- Experience in a large (over 500+), public sector, unionized, organization helpful.
Additional Certifications:
Although driving a State Vehicle is not a requirement for this position, travel by foot or vehicle may be required from time to time for meetings, deliveries, etc. across campus. If driving a State vehicle, incumbent must possess and maintain a valid class C Driver’s license or equivalent with fewer than six points.

Physical Demands
Incumbent works in an office environment and requires the ability to work physically on-campus as needed, see, hear, speak, sit, stand, walk, stoop, reach, bend and lift up to 20lbs. Incumbent must be able to operate standard office equipment and keyboards and will occasionally travel to meetings and interviews throughout campus. This role is telework ELIGIBLE.
