A postdoctoral trainee position is available in the Department of Orthodontics and Institute of Oral Health Research at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  Projects involve understanding the signal transduction pathways regarding dental tissue formation and related human genetic disorders in order to facilitate the development of targeted therapies and diagnostics. The applicant should be a fast and independent learner; able to critically evaluate data; able to troubleshoot experiments; work with undergraduate and graduate students in the laboratory; and able to write scientifically. Projects will include cell culture, cellular and molecular biology techniques, and animal models. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Molecular/Cell Biology, Genetics or related discipline with experience documented by first author publications.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency.
  • Clinical or research doctoral degree required (e.g., MD, DMD, PharmD, PhD, ScD, DrPH, or equivalent).

     

Support:

  • Funding for Post-Doctoral Trainees is supported through an NIDCR T-90 Institutional Training Grant.
  • NIH stipend support based on years’ post-degree renewable for up to 3 years, with annual review.
  • Partial coverage of tuition and health insurance fees.
  • Travel support to attend meetings.
