If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL!

We are seeking a postdoctoral planetary scientist to develop radar remote sensing expertise. As a member of our team, you will work with the Europa Clipper, JUICE RIME, and LRO Mini-RF teams to plan for operations and analyze radar data. You will also work with existing staff to develop concepts for future exploration and further scientific endeavors. You will be joining a hardworking team of engineers and scientists who are highly collaborative. As a Postdoctoral Fellow...

  • You will participate in a 2-year postdoctoral program, with possible extension to 3 years, in which you will grow your skills in research and expand your scientific expertise.
  • Your primary responsibility will be to work with spacecraft/instrument teams to build capability to collect and analyze planetary radar data.
  • You will work with other scientists and engineers to analyze remote sensing data of planets, moons, and small bodies in the solar system.
  • You will collaborate to lay the groundwork for future scientific research, radar experiments, and space mission concepts.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Possess a PhD in planetary science, astronomy, physics, or math, or related field;
  • Are skilled in planetary geology, radar data collection and processing, and planetary radar data analysis, or ability to learn;
  • Have demonstrated leadership experience in the planetary community;
  • Are willing and able to occasionally travel for APL business and/or scientific meetings; and
  • Are able to obtain a Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.


You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have experience in various radar observing methods, including SAR and GPR;
  • Have experience working with and building radar systems; and
  • Have demonstrated commitment to advancing Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access.
