Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Office of Human Resources is part of Division of Human Resources and Equal Opportunity and Compliance which provides the University with a full range of Human Resources, Equal Opportunity, and Title IX programs and services to support the University’s teaching, research, and public service mission. The EHRA Non-Faculty HR Office provides a consultative, solution-driven approach to developing and administering programs, policies, and practices that support our academic and business units’ efforts to attract, retain, motivate, and develop talented and diverse workforce’s. Our primary objective is to manage and continually improve HR and administrative functions to allow faculty, staff, and students to identify and execute innovative research and academic solutions for the public good.

The EHRA Non-Faculty HR Office partners with campus HR professionals to design and classify approximately 3000 academic, executive, instructional, research, IT, public service, and other professional positions, while effectively administering the State of North Carolina and UNC system classification, employment, and compensation plans and policies.

The office also serves as the university’s functional experts on personnel appointments and appointment changes, salary administration, including merit pay planning, analysis, and execution, and compliance with university, state, and federal laws and regulations.

Position Summary
This position is a 100% remote work arrangement, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

This is a time-limited position with an estimated duration of three (3) years.

The HR Specialist position will provide a wide range of support to the EHRA HR team within the Office of Human Resources (OHR), as well as supporting the Classification and Compensation team as needed. The work will involve reviewing a variety of HR personnel actions for employee groups including EHRA Non-faculty, Faculty, Postdoctoral Associates, and SHRA. The incumbent in this position will review position actions including: creation of new positions, reporting relationship changes, abolishments, data updates, posting information updates, and conversions to an electronic format. The HR Specialist will also review lump sum payments for EHRA faculty. Responsibilities will include completing and auditing weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for submission to the UNC System Office or for OHR purposes; including monthly salary increases, sign-on/retention/performance bonuses, FLSA position coding, temporary salary increases, time-limited status, vacant positions, etc. This position will prepare material for submission to external bodies such as the UNC System Office, Board of Governors, and the Board of Trustees as well as perform entry-level position review and classification.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Previous experience using an HR Information System
Experience with Excel
Strong skills in business math, such as ratios and percentages

Previous experience with position management and/or salary administration
Previous experience in a higher-education environment
Previous experience with a public employer
