Summary of Job Duties:
The University of Arkansas, in collaboration with the Dale Bumpers National Research Center, is seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to join our team. This position will play a crucial role in achieving the goals of our research initiative focused on understanding the prevalence, distribution, and genetic diversity of Rice Blast pathogens in the state of Arkansas.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive surveys across various regions of Arkansas to assess the prevalence, distribution, and severity of Rice Blast infections in rice crops
  • Perform genetic characterization of the Rice Blast population in Arkansas using race assignment assays and understand the genetic diversity and evolution of the pathogen
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of deployed resistance genes against Rice Blast by analyzing avirulence genes and assessing resistance levels in rice breeding lines
  • Design and execute controlled experiments in greenhouse conditions

Qualifications:
Qualifications:
  • PhD in Plant Pathology, Genetics, or a related field
  • Strong background in molecular biology techniques, genetics, and plant pathology
  • Experience in conducting field surveys, molecular marker analysis, and pathogen characterization
  • Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment
The requirement is to have a driver's license to be able to drive.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in studying fungal pathogens, particularly Magnaporthe oryzae
  • Knowledge of rice breeding programs and genetics
  • Experience with bioinformatics tools for genomic analysis
