Summary

We are excited to announce that our cardiovascular research program is now accepting applications for new Postdoctoral Training Positions in Cardiovascular Aging Research. This initiative offers an opportunity for students to be part of a collaborative and innovative research environment that aims to push the boundaries of what we know about cardiovascular aging.

This is a unique opportunity for early-career researchers to engage in cutting-edge research aimed at understanding the mechanisms and implications of cardiovascular aging. The research projects would focus on how the integration of different scientific disciplines can enhance our understanding of cardiovascular aging. Projects with translational impact and potential clinical applications are encouraged.

In a world where the population is aging at an unprecedented rate, understanding the intricacies of cardiovascular health has never been more critical. Cardiovascular diseases remain a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in older adults, making our research timely and essential for improving healthcare outcomes. As a postdoctoral fellow in our program, you will have the unique opportunity to delve into complex scientific questions, contribute to groundbreaking research, and pave the way for new therapeutic strategies aimed at enhancing cardiovascular health in aging populations.

Mission Statement

Michigan Medicine improves the health of patients, populations and communities through excellence in education, patient care, community service, research and technology development, and through leadership activities in Michigan, nationally and internationally.  Our mission is guided by our Strategic Principles and has three critical components; patient care, education and research that together enhance our contribution to society.

Why Join Michigan Medicine?

Michigan Medicine is one of the largest health care complexes in the world and has been the site of many groundbreaking medical and technological advancements since the opening of the U-M Medical School in 1850. Michigan Medicine is comprised of over 30,000 employees and our vision is to attract, inspire, and develop outstanding people in medicine, sciences, and healthcare to become one of the world’s most distinguished academic health systems.  In some way, great or small, every person here helps to advance this world-class institution. Work at Michigan Medicine and become a victor for the greater good.

What Benefits can you Look Forward to?

  • Excellent medical, dental and vision coverage effective on your very first day
  • 2:1 Match on retirement savings

Responsibilities*

  • Research Focus: Investigate the molecular, cellular, and physiological changes associated with cardiovascular aging.
  • Mentorship: Fellows will join a research group within the U-M Medical School. Fellows are strongly encouraged to indicate an interest in working within a collaborative environment, with more than one PI.
  • Funding: The fellowship includes an annual stipend corresponding to 120% of the NIH pay scale for postdoctoral fellows. In addition, a sum of $5,000 will be placed under the control of the fellow to cover expenses related to the attendance of scientific meetings, specific research endeavors, training, and professional development. Fellows also receive a subsidized health and dental plan for the fellow and their dependents, and optional life insurance.
  • Career Development: Opportunities for academic and professional growth, including workshops, seminars, and conferences.

Professional development

  • Fellows training will be facilitated by a mentorship panel including a primary mentor and an additional secondary mentor with synergetic expertise in the fellow's research domain.
  • Fellows are encouraged to attend the monthly M-BoCA meeting as well as present their research at the annual M-BoCA seminar.
  • On a monthly basis, fellows will engage in interactive sessions with the Program Directors, focusing on career development modules and scholarly dialogues that encompass both foundational and emerging topics in the field.
  • Fellows will participate in grant-writing workshops, specifically tailored to prepare them for transition awards and K-series fellowships, which are pivotal for career advancement in academic research.
  • The program is committed to equipping fellows with an expansive repertoire of competencies that are indispensable for a prosperous research career. This includes but is not limited to, advanced training in scientific manuscript writing, oral communication strategies, laboratory management techniques, and best practices for job application in research settings.
