POSITION TITLE: Senior Video Communications Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Video Communications Senior Manager supporting the Office of Marketing & Communications at Scripps Research in La Jolla, California, home of some of the world's most renowned scientists. Your passion for our purpose and your expertise will empower us to secure resources that drive our global impact. The Senior Video Communications Manager at Scripps Research is an essential member of the institutes communications department, working to promote Scripps Research to a wide variety of audiences in pursuit of strategic marketing and communications goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Responsible for overseeing Scripps Research video production, which includes developing best practices, strategy and operations for video communications, the direction of video shoots and production of videos.
  • Manages Video Production Specialist and edits/oversees all video content produced by the specialist.
  • Provides videos as-needed for social media and marketing strategies.
  • Responsible for strategizing the creation and production of video-based events.
  • Works closely with event staff and key stakeholders on virtual and in-person events.
  • Oversees and coordinates with outside production teams to produce videos for institute and partners. Requires managing multiple facets of production, sourcing, managing onside logistics, and quality assurance.
  • Key point of contact for outside organizations planning video shoots on campus. Includes media, foundations, donors, and scientific organizations.
  • Short term projects, supporting promotion of breaking news or events, while other longer-term projects for more evergreen promotional video will require higher production values.
  • Creates Scripps Research video materials for general and scientific communications for in-person and online viewing, as well as sharing with other partners and media. Videos are viewed by a variety of audiences and are used in press releases, website posts and social media posts, as well as for b-roll used for reporter cultivation
  • Works directly with faculty, administration, students, and leadership during their participation in video production and approvals
  • In collaboration with the rest of the communications team, develops content and distribution strategies, coordinates resource and provides creative ideas
  • Acts as point video production manager for Scripps Research activities and events, at times working with event AV staff on technical and logistics aspects of event recording or broadcast of videos at events
  • Responsible for procurement, operation and maintenance of all video studio equipment used by the communications office
  • Serves as technical consultant to faculty, staff, students, and other internal clients producing videos.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Video, Visual Arts, Communications or Marketing or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • Minimum of 6 years relevant experience.
  • Experience in an educational, research, scientific or news setting.
  • Advanced filming and editing skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to work with competing and shifting priorities.
  • Excellent follow-through skills and the ability to operate independently.
  • Professionalism, sensitivity, and discretion in handling confidential information.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

May include: Stationary or standing position for an extended period of time, lifting, traverse campus/facility as needed, operate machinery such as carts, video cameras, speakers, stands, lighting equipment, computer, phone, copy machine; exposure to cold or hot temperatures.

COMPENSATION:

The expected hiring range for this position is $87,200 to $104,640/annually, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
