Position Information

BASIC FUNCTION:

The purpose of this position is to provide pedagogical, administrative, and research training and support for a Research Fellow in the Department of Mathematics through including, but not limited to (a) research career development

NATURE AND SCOPE:

The goals of the project include synthesis of new energetic materials, their characterization and evolution under extreme pressure-temperature conditions. The research expertise and experience will be useful in meeting the goals of our research project and also training of our students involved in this research project.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Research expertise and experience will be useful in meeting the goals of our research project and also training of our students involved in this research project.

  • Writing scientific papers in professional peer-reviewed journals. Presenting papers in conferences and scientific meetings.

  • Experimental work will be carried out at the Geophysical Laboratory, Carnegie Institution of Washington, DC

CORE COMPETENCIES:

  • Experience in the field of X-ray crystallography. This technique provides important information about the crystal structure, composition, chemical bonding and elastic properties of the compound, synthesized under extreme conditions.

  • Experience with high-pressure techniques, including diamond anvil cells.

  • Experience with laser-heating techniques

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

PhD in Physics with expertise in high-pressure crystallography.
