This position is a postdoctoral research associate in Learning Technologies (LT) in University Information Technology Services (UITS) at Indiana University Bloomington.
The mission of the LT division is to "provide vision and leadership to support excellence in teaching and learning through active learning environments, pedagogical research, learner-focused technologies and partnerships with faculty and other stakeholders."
The postdoctoral research associate supports research across multiple projects related to the study of student engagement in digital learning environments in higher education. We are looking for a candidate with research experience in the adoption and use of learning technologies in higher education with a focus in one or more of the following areas: student motivation and engagement, learning analytics, and faculty adoption of learning technologies. The postdoctoral research associate will collaborate with LT division leaders, campus centers for teaching and learning as well as IU faculty and researchers from various departments. The candidate's primary research will focus on designing studies, collecting data (survey, interview) and analyzing large-volume student and instructor interaction data from digital learning platforms in order to measure/validate student engagement and participation in such platforms.
This position offers the opportunity to conduct research on learning technology adoption and digital engagement in higher education. The candidate will participate in theoretical synthesis, data analysis, supervision and mentoring of graduate research assistants, writing and dissemination of findings-contributing to publications and conference presentations, as well as supporting both data and project management. The candidate will have mentored opportunities for writing journal and conference publications.
The appointment is a one-year position with possible renewal for a second year, conditional on satisfactory performance review after the first year.
Required qualifications include an earned doctorate degree in Educational Technology, Instructional Systems Technology, Learning Sciences, Educational Psychology, or related field with research experience relevant to learning technologies in higher education. Advanced graduate students who expect to complete their degree requirements by the start date are also considered qualified.
Strong methodological training in quantitative research practices. Demonstrated prior experience in conducting educational research and evaluation in higher education context. Strong communication, presentation, and writing skills. Ability to work effectively in a team with individuals from diverse backgrounds and collaborate with colleagues in various departments.
Additional preferred skills and abilities include experience in conducting mixed method research, experience in learning spaces research, record of first-authored (sole authored) peer-reviewed publications, and academic presentations at international conferences.
