Position Summary | POST-DOCTORAL POSITION IN STEM BIOLOGY in the Department of Otolaryngology-HNS We are looking for a motivated and creative post-doctoral fellow to join the 3D Stem Cell Biology Research Lab (https://www.hashinolab.com ) and study normal and pathological development of the human inner ear using stem cell-derived organoids as a model system (Koehler et al., Nature 2013; Liu et al., Nature Communications 2016; Koehler et al., Nature Biotechnology 2017; Nie et al., Nature Communications 2022). We recently developed a human cochlear organoid system that recapitulates aspects of outer and inner hair cell development. Using this novel model system, we aim at elucidating the mechanisms underlying hair cell differentiation and identifying means to promote hair cell regeneration in the human cochlea. We are also developing a human cochlear–hindbrain assembloid system to study auditory neural circuity development. Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in biomedical sciences. Funding is available for supporting this position for up to 5 years. The start date is flexible. The Hashino lab is a highly collaborative group of scientists with diverse research backgrounds ranging from chemical engineering to stem cell biology, neuroscience and molecular biology. We conduct team-based science, while fostering independence and creative approaches to addressing fundamental scientific questions. The experimental approaches we are currently using include: CRISPR genome editing, CUT&RUN/ChIP, scRNA-seq/scATAC-seq, 3D imaging/expansion microscopy, proteomics, hydrogel fabrication/characterization, bioprinting and mathematical modeling. As the nation’s largest medical school, IUSM is committed to being an institution that not only reflects the diversity of the learners we teach and the patient populations we serve, but also pursues the values of diversity, equity and inclusion that inform academic excellence. We desire candidates who enhance our representational diversity, as well as those whose work contributes to equitable and inclusive learning and working environments for our students, staff, and faculty. IUSM strives to take an anti-racist stance, regularly evaluating and updating its policies, procedures, and practices to confer equitable opportunities for contribution and advancement for all members of our community. We invite individuals who will join us in our mission to advance racial equity to transform health and wellbeing for all throughout the state of Indiana. |
