Basic Function:

MOTIVATED INDIVIDUAL TO FILL AN NIH-FUNDED POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IN THE FIELD OF AGING AND NEURODEGENERATION (ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE) AT KENT STATE UNIVERSITY BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES DEPARTMENT (HTTPS://WWW.KENT.EDU/BIOLOGY/PROFILE/GEMMA-CASADESUS-SMITH).

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

THE MAIN GOAL OF THE LABORATORY IS TO: 1) TO UNDERSTAND THE FUNDAMENTAL ROLE OF REPRODUCTIVE AND METABOLIC HORMONES IN NEUROPLASTICITY AND NEURONAL HEALTH AND THEIR CONTRIBUTION IN CNS DEVELOPMENT AND COGNITIVE FUNCTION AND — (2) TO UNDERSTAND THE CONTRIBUTION OF AGE-RELATED DYSREGULATION IN SUCH HORMONES IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF AD. RESEARCH PROJECTS IN THE LABORATORY ARE PURSUED USING A NUMBER OF EXPERIMENTAL STRATEGIES, INCLUDING ADVANCED TECHNIQUES IN MOLECULAR AND CELLULAR BIOLOGY, AND MOUSE BEHAVIOR.

Minimum Qualifications:

PHD IN CELLULAR/MOLECULAR BIOLOGY, NEUROSCIENCES OR RELATED FIELD. 

 

 

Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:

WHILE NOT A PRE-REQUISITE FOR THIS POSITION, WE ARE PARTICULARLY INTERESTED IN CANDIDATES WITH A STRONG BACKGROUND IN IN VIVO AND IN VITRO MOLECULAR NEUROSCIENCE AND EXPERIENCE IN GENETICALLY MODIFIED MOUSE MODELS AND TARGETED/CONDITIONAL APPROACHES TO ALTER GENE EXPRESSION (CRISP-CAS9/VIRAL DELIVERY ETC).

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Light work-Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus occasionally.
