Mentor: Dr. Jarred Younger, PhD, Associate Professor, Department of Psychology, School of College of Arts & Sciences, University of Alabama at Birmingham, Email: youngerlab@uab.edu

The Neuroinflammation, Pain and Fatigue Laboratory at UAB,  under the direction of Dr. Jarred Younger, is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to head scientific writing of several completed and ongoing human projects. The fellow will work closely with the Principal Investigator to produce manuscripts and grant applications, and will have the opportunity to assume first-author position on some manuscripts. The fellow will also have the opportunity to pursue subprojects and new pilot projects, and will be supported to apply for career development funding, including project and training grants. An advanced research or clinical degree is required for this position. Individuals may have a PhD in Psychology, Immunology, Pharmacology, or related fields. Individuals with an MD, DO, ND, or other advanced clinical degree are also eligible to apply. Applicants must have a demonstrated track record of being primary author on peer-reviewed scientific publications and must have excellent overall scientific writing skills. Possession of advanced statistical analysis techniques (e.g., machine learning, linear mixed modeling, growth curve modeling, classification techniques) is helpful, but not required. Previous work on immunology projects is also helpful, but not required. Applicants should be able to quickly absorb new information.

The laboratory is funded through NIH, DoD, and non-profit sources. We focus on developing new diagnostic techniques and treatments for chronic pain and fatigue conditions. Our primary laboratory techniques include clinical trials of pharmaceutical and botanical treatments, observational analyses of inflammatory disease mediators, experimental immune provocations with endotoxin and other agents, and neuroimaging (MRI and PET). We emphasize the exploration of inflammatory and neuroinflammatory causes of chronic diseases such as fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. More information about the laboratory can be found at:  YouTube: https://goo.gl/S1wFyg; Facebook: https://goo.gl/VyDTQE; Website: https://cas.uab.edu/younger/

To apply, please submit a cover letter and a CV to Tammie Quinn at tquinn@uab.edu. This is a full-time position with an initial appointment letter for 1 year with additional years contingent on satisfactory performance and available funding. The start date is negotiable, but would preferably occur in Fall of 2018.
