Job Description


Postdoctoral positions are available in the laboratory of Dr. Ilia Baskakov, PhD, in the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology and the Center for Biomedical Engineering and Technology, University of Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore. Our laboratory utilizes multidisciplinary approaches including animal pathology, cellular and molecular biology, imaging, transcriptome analysis and glycobiology for elucidating mechanisms behind chronic neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation associated with prion diseases. We are looking for enthusiastic and highly motivated junior postdoctoral fellows with strong interests in chronic neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Expertise in one or several areas including FACS/flow cytometry, primary cell cultures, animal pathology, animal behavioral work, glycochemistry and transcriptome analysis are highly desirable. Experience in isolating microglia and astrocytes along with characterization of glia reactive phenotypes is highly desirable. Successful candidates must have a recent Ph.D. in neuroscience, cellular or molecular biology, immunology, or related disciplines. Candidates are expected to have analytical skills and be proficient in oral and written communication.
