Overview

The Reinherz lab at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School is recruiting a postdoctoral fellow to study HIV-1 vaccine immunology. We use an interdisciplinary approach combining structural biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, and immunology to generate insights that can be translated into HIV-1 vaccine design. Specific research areas of interest include molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying B cell immunodominance and strategies to modulate B cell affinity maturation during vaccination to induce protective immunity while preventing induction of autoimmunity. The laboratory provides a rich training environment and access to cutting-edge techniques.

Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute brings together world renowned clinicians, innovative researchers and dedicated professionals, allies in the common mission of conquering cancer, HIV/AIDS and related diseases. Combining extremely talented people with the best technologies in a genuinely positive environment, we provide compassionate and comprehensive care to patients of all ages; we conduct research that advances treatment; we educate tomorrow's physician/researchers; we reach out to underserved members of our community; and we work with amazing partners, including other Harvard Medical School-affiliated hospitals.

Responsibilities

The postdoctoral fellow will work on HIV -1 env vaccine development and modulation of B cell affinity maturation. He or she will explore humoral and cell mediated autoimmune responses induced by vaccination and underlying mechanisms of breaking immune tolerance.  Mouse model immunization studies, immune sera analyses, FACS for immune cells analyses, B cell repertoire analysis and immunohistology are key tasks along with cloning, expression and purification of proteins, cell culture, etc.

Qualifications

Highly-motivated candidates with a recent PhD or MD/PhD in biomedical sciences and significant experience in  immunology, molecular biology and biochemistry are encouraged to apply. Technical experience in immunology and methods to examine immune responses (measurement of antibodies, B and T cell responses and B cell repertoire analyses and mouse modeling/handling etc.) are essential. Skills in molecular cloning, biochemistry and cell culturing techniques/protein expression are highly desirable. Candidates should have a publication record in peer-reviewed journals. We are seeking a candidate with excellent writing and communication skills, able to work independently but also effectively with other lab members. Applicants should include a short statement of research goals, CV and three references with their application.

At Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, we work every day to create an innovative, caring, and inclusive environment where every patient, family, and staff member feels they belong.  As relentless as we are in our mission to reduce the burden of cancer for all, we are equally committed to diversifying our faculty and staff.  Cancer knows no boundaries and when it comes to hiring the most dedicated and diverse professionals, neither do we. If working in this kind of organization inspires you, we encourage you to apply.
