POSITION TITLE: Institutional Research Analyst


POSITION SUMMARY:

We have an exciting opportunity for an Institutional Research Analyst supporting the Office of Graduate Studies at Scripps Research in La Jolla, California, home of some of the world's most renowned scientists. This exciting role will provide continuous improvement, consulting, and technology development for the Scripps Research Graduate Program. Responsibilities will include analyzing user needs and processes with a view towards best practices, reliability, and automation through active communication and evaluation of processes. The information and analysis provided enables the recipients to make informed decisions and to develop fact-based knowledge about the Institute.



RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Partners with the Director of the Graduate School in the design and development of learning outcomes measurements, data-driven strategies, assessment practices and curriculum enhancements.
  • Develops robust analytics and reporting of program outcomes to ensure Graduate School achieves its strategic objectives and can be shared broadly to the TSRI community, Board of Directors, and external evaluators.
  • Primary business owner of the Graduate Program's suite of systems and tools, including learning management system, student information system, course evaluation software, etc.); ensures key stakeholder requirements are included in the development roadmap.
  • Partners closely with the IT Applications Engineering team to ensure robust and scalable development, integration, and testing of Graduate School tech stack and data integrity within the Institute's infrastructure. Ensures key stakeholders' considerations are considered within the development roadmap.
  • Ensure all accreditation requirements, including compliance with accrediting standards, are included among other institutional goals and objectives.
  • Promote and maintain an external network of instructional design, DEI, institutional research, and outcomes assessment peers in the higher education community.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field with 4+ years of work experience of relevant industry experience, or equivalent combined work experience.
  • Proficiency with programming languages (e.g., R, Python) and significant experience with data visualization/business intelligence tools required.
  • Experience in working with relational databases, large data sets and multiple data sources required.
  • Experience working in a university or graduate education setting preferred. Knowledge and understanding of key concepts in higher education are highly desired.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and developing and tracking key performance indicators.
  • Ability to communicate succinctly complex analytics to a range of different audiences.
  • Adept and flexible in ambiguous situations; adaptable to changing priorities while effectively managing multiple commitments, at times on tight deadlines.
  • Strategic mindset coupled with the ability and willingness to roll up sleeves where necessary and desire to constantly improve the status quo.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with proven experience in cultivating cross-collaborative working relationships across an organization and ability to influence at all levels

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

May include: stationary position for an extended period of time, traverse campus/facility as needed, operate machinery such as computer, phone, copy machine; exposure to cold or hot temperatures.

COMPENSATON:

The expected hiring range for this position is $80,000 to $96,000/annually, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
