POSITION TITLE: Research Assistant I

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are looking for a Research Assistant I to work with the group of Prof. Hangartner on the analyses of antibody responses induced by HIV vaccine candidates. These investigations will focus on Fc-receptor-mediated effector functions, and the dissection of the components contributing to these immune responses.

The experimental work will include biochemical and immunological analysis of human and animal sera, expression and purification of recombinant proteins, the generation of monoclonal antibodies, cellular immunology assays, as well as B cell repertoire analyses and single cell RNA-Seq. Applicants will perform molecular cloning, FACS, ELISA, virus neutralization assays, preparation and titration of (pseudo)viral stocks, RT-PCR, western blots, gel filtration, cell culture, ultracentrifugation, chromatographic procedures, and perform other general lab duties, tasks and responsibilities as required or assigned.

Interested applicants should have a B.S. degree with a strong background in molecular biology, virology and immunology. They should be able to plan, conduct and analyze complex experiments under guidance in a highly collaborative environment, and be interested in acquiring new skills and techniques.

RESPONSIBLITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Work under general supervision. Assistance given for unusual problems and normally reviewed for application of sound professional judgement
  • Ability to independently conduct a wide variety of standard laboratory techniques/procedures. Some ability to use judgement when necessary to adapt standard methods and techniques. Receive instructions on specific assignment objectives, complex features, and possible solutions.
  • May provide interpretation and initial analyses of results.
  • Limited ability to troubleshoot and modify procedures.
  • May assist in designing experiments to complete a segment of overall research plan.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been attained.
  • Requires 1-3 years experience. Candidates possessing a Master's degree, 0-2 years experience required.

COMPENSATION: The expected hiring range for this position is $20.07 to $25.06 per hour, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
