Job Summary
Part of a dynamic, interdisciplinary team of scientists focused on early stage translational research. Works with project team to develop new therapeutic approaches to unmet medical needs. Work is published in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals and optimized for partnerships with various for-profit and non-profit organizations.
Responsibilities and Duties
  • Uses unique scientific expertise to contribute to key research projects in alignment with Calibr's mission and goals
  • Performs highly specialized research on drug discovery based on medchem and SAR while demonstrating successful scientific expertise across focused areas
  • Design new analogs for improvement of activity, ADME and in vivo PK and efficacy based on medchem and SAR and previous drug discovery experience.
  • Uses profound knowledge of the field and current literature to maintain a pipeline for successful pre-clinical candidates
  • Works with research team to identify and develop new relevant and viable research projects
  • Supervises one or more colleagues
  • Authors research reports, generates scientific presentations and manages research timelines
  • Details of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.
Decision Making
Independently designs, executes, interprets and reports results of work. Additionally, oversees consistency and accuracy of results and documentation. Expected to make decisions and solve the majority of problems that arise with minimal management input. Escalates issues and risks that significantly affect timelines.
Communication
Will communicate with colleagues, CRO personnel, and management teams to execute projects effectively.
Scope and Complexity
Investigator is independently responsible for assigned strategic and day-to-day research activities. Works collaboratively with teams in coordination of group goals. Works on extremely complex problems and requires the ability to adapt quickly and evaluate intangible variables. Exercises judgement in developing methods, techniques and criteria for obtaining results.
Supervision of Others
Manages one or more colleagues. Participates in recruitment, selection and training of team members. May provide training and mentorship to other lower level scientific staff.
Position Requirements
  • Candidates must have Ph.D. in a Chemistry/medicinal chemistry with 3-5 years of drug discovery based on medchem and SAR
  • Prior experience managing scientific staff and/or postdoctoral associates
  • Strong laboratory skills and a proven track record in area of specified science
  • Demonstration of highly successful project execution across disease areas using in-house and/or CRO resources leading to preclinical candidates for further clinical development
  • Highly motivated, creative, and devoted to project goals
  • Impeccable attention to detail, and excellent ability to perform hands on experiments, research, design, and organize project designs and maintain detailed documentation
  • Able to contribute in a meaningful way to scientific discourse
  • Prior involvement in IND-enabling activities are highly preferred
  • Highly motivated, creative, and able to maintain excellent documentation of their work including writing grant applications and third-party partnership plans
  • Able to collaborate proficiently and communicate effectively with colleagues, project management and senior leadership
  • Experience in structure-based drug design including docking is a plus.

Compensation:

The expected hiring range for this position is $105,000 to $120,000, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

May include: Stationary position for an extended period of time, traverse campus/facility as needed, operate machinery such as computer, phone, copy machine; exposure to cold or hot temperatures.
