Position Title: Postdoctoral Associate, Peptide Chemistry

Position Summary:

We are seeking a talented Postdoctoral Associate to join our Peptide Chemistry team in San Diego. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional academic credentials in peptide chemistry, as well as expertise in bioconjugation and knowledge in chemical biology.

In this role, the successful applicant will be a key member within the laboratory and make significant contributions to the advancement of Calibr's peptide drug discovery portfolio. Primarily, the candidate will be responsible for the design and synthesis of analogs intended to enhance the potency, pharmacokinetics, safety, and in vivo efficacy of potential drug candidates.

Furthermore, the candidate will enjoy ample opportunities to learn and actively participate in multidisciplinary drug discovery projects, making a meaningful impact and engaging in independent ideation to drive innovative practices. Ultimately, this role will play a crucial part in accelerating peptide drug discovery endeavors at Calibr.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, synthesize and characterize peptides and proteins using chemical synthesis, bioconjugation, purification, and biophysical experiments
  • Conduct structure-activity relationship (SAR) and stability studies, with the aim of progressing molecules to IND-enabling activities
  • Communicate data and reports on project status at individual, group, and departmental meetings
  • Review literature and patents to retrieve key scientific information needed for research projects
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and to drive shared objectives
  • Build and enhance internal and external professional relationships
  • Details of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in organic chemistry, or related field
  • Skilled in contemporary peptide synthesis techniques, cyclization strategies, bioconjugation, purification methodologies, and the analytical characterization of peptide and protein conjugates.
  • Hands-on familiarity with peptide structures and relevant biophysical techniques to analyze solubility, stability, and solution dynamics.
  • Adept at successfully adhering to numerous deadlines across various projects, showcasing a heightened level of efficiency.
  • Proven track record of impactful scientific involvement, having authored or co-authored research publications in leading, distinguished scientific journals.
  • Collaborate seamlessly and convey information proficiently to both colleagues and the management team.
  • Experience in molecular modeling including docking is a plus.
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced as a motivated, enthusiastic, proactive, detail-oriented, and organized individual.

Physical Requirements:

This position works in a laboratory environment. May include: Stationary position for an extended period of time, traverse campus/facility as needed,
operate machinery such as computer, phone, copy machine; exposure to cold or hot temperatures.

Compensation:

Postdoctoral Associates will be hired following the National Institute of Health and California's exempt salary guidelines, which provide for a starting range of $68,000 - $70,000. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
