Essential Job Duties

The Belcher Lab is located in the Department of Biological Sciences that is part of the College of Sciences. Laboratory activities are part of the NC State Superfund Research Program and Center for Health and the Human Environment. Laboratory research aims to define new scientific understanding and transfer of that understanding to local, regional and global communities in the form of environmental education and community engaged research activities.

The selected candidate will focus primarily developing independent research under the guidance of the PI and the laboratories collaborators. As part of these activities, the candidate will interact with and work closely with the PI to further collaborations, interact with community partners, and train other laboratory personnel.

As part of this position the candidate will engage in continuous self-directed education and is expected (with the aid of the PI) to apply for additional intramural and extramural funding to support their research activities.

Conduct research and related-laboratory and field activities and assisting in research mentoring of trainees; as well as publication of research findings.

The selected candidate will also complete activities as needed for community engaged participatory research, research related travel, grant application preparation.

Duties and Responsibilities
Research, laboratory, field activities, and assisting in research mentoring of trainees; publication of research findings.

As needed for community engaged participatory research, research related travel, grant application preparation.

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday, 40 hrs per week.

Department Required Skills

Experience with molecular toxicology, and regulatory relevant in vivo rodent models. Experience with sample preparation and high resolution mass spectrometry and other analytical approaches for monitoring contaminants in environmental samples is desirable. Working knowledge of scientific related software coding for biostatistical (e.g. R or Python, or others) and machine learning approaches. Experience in communication with study participants and other stakeholder.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

PhD degree in related field of study with 0-5 years postdoctoral training.
• Training in environmental health science, toxicology, and/or analytical chemistry
• Community engagement experience
